Distracted Driving: Don’t Do It
With all of the new devices and advanced technology being introduced into society, at times it can seem tempting to become distracted while driving. This year alone, 307,753 car accidents have been reported with being involved in a distracted driving case. It has also been measured that drivers using hand held devices while driving are four times as likely to get into crashes serious enough to injure themselves or others.
With these statistics in mind, it goes without being said that cell phones are extremely dangerous to have in use while driving. In addition, blue tooth technology carries the potential of being as equally distracting. Driving requires, and should receive, full attention physically and mentally.
As we are all aware, cycling is becoming more and more popular for citizens with an active lifestyle. Distracted driving not only endangers the driver being distracted, but also the cyclists, pedestrians and fellow motorists on the road.
The state of Arizona is heavily pushing for a ban on texting while driving. Currently, if you cause an accident while texting you will be fined a minimum of $250. Punishment will continue to increase depending on the severity of the accident.
Distracted driving is never socially acceptable and as responsible Valley citizens, we should inform fellow residents of the severity of distracted driving.
